Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home, Mausoleum and Crematory stands in the Sellwood neighborhood of southeast Portland, Oregon, as a landmark of American funerary architecture. Opened in 1901 as the Portland Crematorium, it holds the distinction of being the first and oldest crematorium west of the Mississippi River, established to meet Portland's growing demand for crematory services at the turn of the twentieth century. Built in the Mission Revival style, the complex evolved to encompass a mausoleum featuring eight stories and over five miles of hallways, adorned with ornate stained glass and Italian sculptures. It remains the largest privately managed indoor burial site in the Pacific Northwest.
