Willow Grove, also known as the Clark House, is a historic plantation complex near Madison Mills in Orange County, Virginia, that combines structures from two distinct periods of American architectural development. The main brick residence, constructed around 1848, exemplifies Greek Revival style with its 2½-story, six-bay facade dominated by a monumental tetrastyle pedimented portico featuring Tuscan order columns, full entablature, and an arched brick podium with Chinese lattice railings, all set upon a high basement. An earlier frame wing, dating to approximately 1787, represents the Federal era and remains physically connected to the main structure. The property also retains numerous nineteenth-century dependencies and farm buildings—including a two-story schoolhouse, weaving house, smokehouse, and frame-and-stone barn and stable—that collectively document the working life of the plantation. The complex was recognized for its historical significance when listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
