The Wort Hotel, built in 1941 in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, was the first luxury hotel in Jackson and stands as a Tudor Revival structure designed by brothers John and Jess Wort, whose entrepreneurial efforts helped transform Jackson Hole's economy from ranching to tourism. The two-story building features brick facing with half-timbering and stucco adorning the second floor, punctuated by a series of street-facing gables characteristic of the Tudor style. The hotel was constructed on land previously owned by the brothers' father, Charles Wort, who had operated a livery stable there from 1915 to 1932. The Wort family's transition from managing Signal Mountain Lodge in Grand Teton National Park—which they ran from 1932 to 1940—culminated in opening this landmark hotel. In 1950, the Silver Dollar Bar was added as an addition, featuring 2,032 uncirculated silver dollars embedded in the bar's surface.
