Near Engelhard, North Carolina, Wynne's Folly—also known as the Clarke House—stands as a vernacular Greek Revival plantation dwelling built around 1848. The two-story frame structure, measuring five bays by five bays, exhibits characteristic period details including a shallow pyramidal roof pierced by pairs of interior end chimneys, a wide frieze, and an overhanging cornice, all supported on a low brick pier foundation. Built for Richard Wynn, the house earned its distinctive name through the ambitions of its original owner, who sought to impress a woman with his architectural commission. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
