Located on the Palace Green in Colonial Williamsburg, the Wythe House is a Georgian mansion built in the 1750s by architect Richard Taliaferro. The residence served as the home of George Wythe, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and influential early American legal scholar. The building's significance as both an architectural exemplar of colonial Virginia design and the dwelling of a founding figure led to its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1970, in addition to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places and recognition as a Virginia Historic Landmark.
