The Fire Temple of Yazd, located in Yazd province, Iran, is a Zoroastrian sanctuary housing the Atash Behram—the "Victorious Fire"—dated to 470 AD. Built in the Pahlavi architectural style using brick, stone, and mortar, it stands as the sole highest-grade fire temple in Iran and one of only nine Atash Behrams worldwide; the remaining eight are located in India. The temple represents an unbroken tradition of Zoroastrian worship in the region stretching back to 400 BC, with fire veneration rooted in ancient Indo-European practices of maintaining hearth fires for warmth and survival. The Anjuman-i Nasiri, the elected body of Zoroastrian officials, opened the temple to non-Zoroastrian visitors beginning in the 1960s, making this Iranian National Heritage site accessible to the broader public.
