The Jāmeh Mosque of Yazd, located in the Iranian city of Yazd, is a Friday mosque completed during the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of a 9th-century Zoroastrian fire temple. Rising 52 meters high and constructed of brick, tile, and mortar, the mosque embodies an architectural synthesis spanning centuries—its design incorporates motifs from the Seljuk, Saffarid, Ilkhanid, Timurid, Safavid, and Qajar periods. This layered stylistic heritage reflects both the building's long construction history and Yazd's historical coexistence of Zoroastrian and Muslim communities. The mosque has served as the spiritual center of the city for centuries and gained further prominence when it was featured on Iran's 200 rial banknote between 1982 and 2005. Designated as an Iranian National Heritage site in 1934 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017, the mosque stands as a remarkable testament to Persian architectural tradition.
