Situated in Yosemite Valley, the Yosemite Museum was founded in 1926 under the direction of Ansel Franklin Hall to preserve and interpret the heritage of the Ahwahnechee people. Designed in the National Park Service rustic style and completed in 1925, the building houses one of California's most comprehensive basket collections, encompassing both utilitarian and made-for-sale examples from approximately 1870 to the present day. The adjacent Yosemite Valley Visitor Center provides complementary exhibitions on the park's geology, wildlife, Native American history, and notable figures such as John Muir. The museum is a contributing property to the National Register of Historic Places.
