The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, located in Exposition Park alongside the California Science Center, is the largest natural and historical museum in the Western United States. Built in 1913 in Mediterranean Revival style, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum holds nearly 35 million specimens and artifacts spanning 4.5 billion years of history, including the world's rarest gemstone, Kyawthuite, alongside extensive research collections housed both on-site and off-site. It operates as a public–private partnership and works in concert with the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits to advance their shared mission of inspiring wonder, discovery, and responsibility for the natural and cultural world.
