Yuantong Temple in Kunming, Yunnan, is an ancient Buddhist shrine nestled within a protected natural depression in the Huashan Subdistrict. Built in the tradition of Chinese architecture, it achieved regional prominence in the 1950s when it hosted a major ceremony welcoming and dispatching sacred teeth of the Buddha, an event that raised its significance throughout Southeast Asia. In recent decades, the temple has undergone expansion with funding support from Thailand. Recognized as both a Major Provincial Historical and Cultural Site of Yunnan and a National Key Buddhist Temple in Han Chinese areas, it stands as an important monument to China's Buddhist heritage.
