Zion Episcopal Church stands in Monroeville, Ohio, as a rare example of Carpenter Gothic architecture in the Connecticut Western Reserve region. Built in 1861 for an Episcopal parish established in 1854, the church features weatherboarded walls and a shingled roof, distinguishing itself among the area's predominantly Greek Revival rural churches through its prominent single tall tower. The structure's Gothic styling is expressed in unconventional ways: rather than the traditional ogive windows of Gothic Revival architecture, Zion displays angled gable-shaped windows. Entry occurs through double doors at the tower's base, surmounted by one large and one small window, while the tower rises to a belfry with louvering and culminates in a cross-tipped steeple. The steeply pitched roof creates front and rear gables, with the tower partially obscuring the front gable. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 3, 1974, recognized for its historically significant architecture.
