Located at College and Washington Streets in Brownsville, Tennessee, Zion Church (also known as Christ Episcopal Church) is a brick Gothic Revival edifice constructed between 1854 and circa 1869. Designed by Reverend James W. Rogers, who spearheaded a fundraising campaign that secured $3,200 for the project, the church was largely completed by 1857 or 1858, with its tower and interior furnishings—altar and lectern—added in 1868 or 1869. The congregation, originally organized in 1832 by Reverend John Chilton (the first Episcopal priest ordained in Tennessee) and Reverend Thomas Wright, had previously worshiped in the Haywood County Courthouse. The church was formally consecrated on March 15, 1874, and renamed Christ Church in 1895 to distinguish it from other Zion churches in the county. The building was renovated in 1969 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
