Built in 1890 on Tompkins Street in Cortland, New York, this châteauesque mansion was designed by architect Samuel B. Reed for industrialist Chester F. Wickwire, founder of the Wickwire Brothers Company, a wire-products manufacturer. The house is a mirror-image sister to an earlier mansion Reed designed for circus manager James Anthony Bailey in Harlem. Its interior is distinguished by mosaic stained glass windows created by Henry F. Belcher. Wickwire occupied the home until his death in 1910. The house became a museum in 1975 and is a contributing property to the Tompkins Street District's 1974 National Register listing.
