Standing at 278 metres with 62 storeys, 22 Bishopsgate is a postmodern commercial skyscraper completed in 2020 on a prominent site in the City of London's Bishopsgate financial district. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, it is the second tallest building in the United Kingdom and the seventeenth in Europe. The tower replaced an earlier ambitious project called The Pinnacle, begun in 2008 but suspended in 2012 after the Great Recession with only seven storeys of concrete core completed. Following a 2013 design review, the original distinctive "helter skelter" exterior was abandoned in favour of a simpler form when the site was sold in 2015 to a consortium led by Axa Real Estate. The development, funded substantially by Saudi Arabian investors, was completed in 2019 by property company Lipton Rogers and its joint venture partner Axa IM – Real Assets at a cost of £1 billion.
