The Alte Burg in Bad Münstereifel, a protected monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a circular rampart dating to the Carolingian period, likely the 9th century. Situated on a hill spur northeast of the town centre above the Erft valley, this refuge castle served both the local population and a daughter monastery of Prüm Abbey. The fortification, measuring roughly 300 metres long and 80 metres wide, shows evidence of at least two construction phases, including a motte in its northeast section and a round tower foundation of rubble stone at its highest point. Archaeological investigations in 1972 uncovered 9th-century pottery with decorative wheel impressions, corroborating its medieval date.
