Arloff Castle stands on the River Erft in the village of Arloff, now part of Bad Münstereifel in North Rhine-Westphalia. This former water castle, originally ringed by moats fed by the river, represents a typologically significant example of Rhineland fortification architecture, distinguished by its rare preservation of Early Gothic-period construction. Its strategic importance in the Middle Ages derived from its position on the border between the Electorate of Cologne and the County of Jülich. Though its present buildings appear modest, the castle remains recognized as an architectural heritage monument for its historical and structural importance.
