Altenstein Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in Maroldsweisach, in the Haßberge district of Lower Franconia, Germany, founded in 1232. Originally the family seat of the lords of Stein zu Altenstein—a lineage that ended in the 19th century—the castle stands some 40 kilometres north of Bamberg. Since the late 20th century it has been managed by the district of Haßberge and underwent renovation around the turn of the millennium. Today it remains an important architectural heritage monument in Bavaria.
