The American Swedish Institute is a museum and cultural center in the Phillips West neighborhood of Minneapolis dedicated to preserving and presenting the historic contributions of Sweden and Swedish Americans to U.S. culture. The complex centers on the Swan Turnblad Mansion, a châteauesque mansion completed in 1908, supplemented by the adjoining Nelson Cultural Center, which opened in 2012. As a gathering place informed by Nordic heritage, the institute offers exhibitions of Swedish and Nordic art and culture, youth and family programming, and performing arts. The site also houses FIKA, a restaurant specializing in New Nordic cuisine that was named "Best Lunch In Minnesota" by the Star Tribune in 2013. The American Swedish Institute is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
