Located at the corner of Main and Vassar streets in Poughkeepsie, New York, the Vassar Institute is a late-19th-century structure combining Italianate and Second Empire architectural styles. Established by Matthew Vassar's nephews on the site of the family's brewery, the building has served multiple cultural purposes over its history, functioning as both a museum and art studio and containing a 300-seat auditorium in its rear wing. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and later designated as a contributing property to the Mill Street–North Clover Street Historic District, it now operates as part of the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center alongside the neighboring Vassar Home for Aged Men.
