Annesley Hall, built in 1903 at Victoria College on the University of Toronto's St. George campus, was Canada's first university residence designed for women. Designed by architect George Martel Miller in the Queen Anne Revival style, the building stands across from the Royal Ontario Museum and is designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Its distinctive character is reflected in its varied interior—no two rooms are identical—and its exclusive amenities including the Tackaberry Library and Music Room. The residence gained further historical significance as home to the first female student at the University of Toronto and the first woman to graduate from a Canadian medical school. The building underwent restoration in 1988–1989 and has maintained its reputation for close-knit community life among its residents.
