Bara Katra, located in Dhaka Division near Chowk Bazaar and the Buriganga river, is one of the oldest architectural monuments in Dhaka. Built in 1641 during the Mughal dynasty's reign in Bengal, this palatial structure exemplifies Mughal architecture. The name—meaning "Great Caravanserai"—derives from the Arabic and Persian term *katra* or *katara*, denoting a colonnaded building or caravan inn. The structure was partially demolished in 2022.
