The Basilica of Saint Pius X in Lourdes, France, is a modernist minor basilica completed in 1958 to accommodate pilgrim crowds attending the centenary of the Lourdes apparitions. Designed by architect Pierre Vago in brutalist concrete, the church—informally known as the Underground Basilica—serves as the largest church within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of Catholicism's most significant pilgrimage destinations. Its bold, unadorned aesthetic marks it as a distinctive twentieth-century addition to the sanctuary's architectural ensemble.
