The Black Cat Tavern was a gay bar in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, built in 1966 in the Art Deco style. In 1967, shortly before its demolition that same year, it became the site of one of the first major demonstrations in the United States protesting police brutality against LGBT people—an event that preceded the more widely known Stonewall riots by more than two years. The venue is now recognized as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
