The Cameo Theatre, an Art Deco movie house at 1445 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, was built in 1936 and painted in hot pink and lime green. Beginning in 1985, when promoter Richard Shelter arranged bookings with owner Zori Hayon, the theater became a legendary venue for punk and hardcore music, hosting influential bands including Black Flag, the Ramones, and Dead Kennedys. The first show, held in July 1985, featured Canadian punk band D.O.A., launching the venue's central role in Miami's underground music scene and all-ages punk movement throughout the decade.
