Designed by architect Wayne McAllister and completed in 1949, this Bob's Big Boy restaurant in Burbank represents a landmark location of the casual dining chain founded by Bob Wian in 1936. The original Bob's Pantry introduced the signature Big Boy hamburger—a double-decker sandwich made with three bun slices and two patties—which became the foundation for a national franchise empire. When Wian began franchising in the 1940s, the "Bob's Big Boy" name was reserved exclusively for company-operated locations, a distinction that persisted through subsequent ownership by Marriott Corporation (1967) and beyond. Of the original chain's over 240 locations at its 1989 peak, only four Bob's Big Boy restaurants remain in the Los Angeles area, with the Burbank location on Riverside Drive now designated as a protected historic landmark.
