Bolton Castle is a 14th-century quadrangular castle in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, built in 1379 by architect John Lewyn for the Scrope family. Though damaged during the English Civil War and subsequently slighted, the structure largely survived and remains substantially intact. As a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, it has never been sold and continues to be owned by Scrope descendants, now operating as a historic house museum. The nearby village of Castle Bolton takes its name from this enduring fortress.
