Bourzey Castle, also known as Mirza Castle, stands at the confluence of Syria's coastal mountains and the Ghab valley, approximately 25 kilometers from Jisr al-Shughur at an elevation of 450 meters. Dating to the 11th century Byzantine era, the fortress features a distinctive triangular plan with a 175-meter western façade and a 50-meter eastern one. The southern and eastern sides exploit naturally defensible deep gorges, while the gentler western slope provided more accessible approach. The castle is fortified by 21 towers and contains a small church, characteristic of Byzantine military architecture in the Levantine highlands.
