Brighton Centre is a brutalist conference and exhibition venue completed in 1977 and designed by Russell Diplock & Associates, who employed textured concrete as a defining material feature. Located on Brighton's seafront and opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan that September, it is the largest facility of its kind in southern England. With capacity for up to 5,000 delegates, the centre has hosted major UK political party conferences and national events since its inception, while also serving as a live music venue and space for weddings and banquets. Positioned within 200 metres of substantial hotels, it was estimated to generate £50 million in annual revenue for the town as of 2004.
