The Plaza Theater in Burlington, Kansas, at 404 Neosho Street, was built in 1942 by architect Al Hauetter in Streamline Moderne style, replacing an earlier theater destroyed by flood the previous year. Clad in ceramic tile, the theater reflects the optimistic modernism of the early 1940s. Originally a movie house, it was adapted in 1990 to serve as the Flint Hills Opry, a live performance venue, and subsequently operated as The Music Box Theatre. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
