Built in 1937 in Burlington, Iowa, the Capitol Theater was a 700-seat venue designed in the Art Deco and Moderne architectural styles. It opened with a screening of *The Prince and the Pauper* and served dual purposes as both a movie theater and performance auditorium, though its stage saw minimal use after its Grand Opening. The theater operated for four decades until its closure in March 1977, when *Carrie* screened as the final film. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it stands as an example of 1930s entertainment architecture.
