Originally built as the Pitts Theatre in 1937–1938, this Art Deco movie house in Culpeper, Virginia, is a brick-faced concrete block structure with a distinctive three-bay façade featuring stepped massing that recedes from a central entrance flanked by retail spaces. Designed with a segregated interior circulation system, the theater maintained separate entries and seating areas for Black and white patrons—a balcony for African-American guests and the main auditorium for white attendees. After closing in 1992, it was renovated and reopened in 2013 as the State Theatre, a performing arts venue, though it ceased operations again in 2016. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 and designated a Virginia Historic Landmark, the building remains a prominent but currently closed structure on Culpeper's Main Street.
