The Commodore Theatre is a Streamline Art Deco movie house built in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1945, originally seating 1,000 patrons. After closing in 1975, the theater remained dormant until new ownership initiated extensive renovations in 1987, leading to its reopening two years later. The restored venue operates today as an active cinema showing first-run films and includes a full kitchen facility. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Virginia Historic Landmark, it stands as a significant example of mid-twentieth-century entertainment architecture.
