In eastern Bursa, the former Ottoman capital, stands the Green Mosque (Yeşil Camii), also known as the Mosque of Mehmed I, designed by Hacı İvaz Paşa. Built before the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453, this Islamic structure anchors a larger complex that includes the Green Tomb mausoleum, a madrasa, public kitchen, and bathhouse. The mosque takes its name from the distinctive green and blue interior tile decorations that ornament its walls. The complex is part of Bursa's UNESCO World Heritage Site.
