The Gies College of Business Instructional Facility at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, completed in 2008, was designed by César Pelli's firm Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. Spanning 160,000 square feet, the building houses numerous classrooms, a 300-seat auditorium, career development centers, student program offices, and study areas, serving as a focal community space for the college. Its $60 million construction marked a sustainability milestone: it became the first business facility at a public university to achieve LEED platinum certification, and the first building on the UIUC campus to earn LEED status. Notable green features include solar panels, a green roof, and an energy-efficient climate control system designed to save approximately $300,000 annually compared to conventional campus buildings.
