Perched on a hilltop in the Navarrese town of Javier, 52 kilometers east of Pamplona, the Castle of Xavier is a 10th-century fortress with profound religious significance. It served as the birthplace and childhood home of Saint Francis Xavier, the 16th-century missionary whose name derives from his family's lordship of the castle. Originally part of the Kingdom of Navarre, the castle now functions as both a tourist destination and a monument recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and designated as a bien de interés cultural (heritage asset of cultural interest) in Spain.
