Castle Sween, situated on the eastern shore of Loch Sween in Knapdale, Argyll and Bute, is among Scotland's earliest stone castles, built in the late 11th century. The structure represents a transitional phase in Scottish castle construction, with its towers added to earlier wooden fortifications that no longer survive. Now a scheduled monument, the ruins stand on the west coast near the forestry village of Achnamara, testament to medieval defensive architecture in the Hebridean region.
