The Cathedral of Guarda, located in the northeastern Portuguese city of Guarda, is a Catholic cathedral designated as a National Monument of Portugal. Construction of the building spanned more than a century and a half, beginning in 1390 and continuing until the mid-16th century, during which time it incorporated both Gothic and Manueline architectural styles. This extended building campaign reflects the evolving aesthetic preferences of late medieval and early modern Portugal, resulting in a structure that blends the pointed arches and structural logic of Gothic design with the ornamental richness characteristic of Manueline architecture.
