The Church of Atalaia, situated in the civil parish of Atalaia within Vila Nova da Barquinha in central Portugal, is a National Monument notable for its layered architectural evolution. Originally constructed in the early 16th century with Gothic elements—including its roofing, vaulted ceilings, and distinctive two-level presbytery—the building was successively transformed by Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque interventions. These later additions encompass the portico and elaborate azulejo tilework, while the church's most distinctive feature is its unique central tower. The 16th-century pulpit represents another significant original element, making this parish church a complex palimpsest of Portuguese religious architecture across three centuries.
