The Cathedral of St. Teresa of Avila, located in the center of Amos on the east bank of the Harricana River, is the only Catholic cathedral in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec. Designed by René Richard and Aristide Beaugrand-Champagne and built in 1922–23, it exemplifies Byzantine Revival architecture through its distinctive circular floor plan, departing from the more traditional cruciform Romanesque design. The cathedral's construction in steel and reinforced concrete was notably unconventional for a house of worship of that era. Positioned on the town's highest hill, its striking silhouette is visible from considerable distances across the landscape.
