Located at Place de l'Indépendance in Tunis's Ville Nouvelle district, the Cathedral of St. Vincent de Paul is a Roman Catholic cathedral designed by L. Bonnet-Labranche and blending Moorish Revival, Gothic Revival, and Neo-Byzantine architectural traditions. The cornerstone was laid in 1890, with construction beginning in 1893; the cathedral opened on Christmas 1897, though its reinforced concrete belltowers, completed in 1910 using the Hennebique technique, were added later due to funding constraints. Built as a replacement for an earlier pro-cathedral whose deteriorating condition made reconstruction necessary, it serves as the episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Tunis and remains under Roman Catholic Church ownership despite the dramatic decline in Tunisia's Catholic population following independence.
