Vannes Cathedral is a Gothic minor basilica dedicated to Saint Peter in Vannes, Brittany, and serves as the seat of the Bishop of Vannes. Built beginning in 1450 on the site of a former Romanesque cathedral, its construction extended from the 15th through the 19th centuries—a span of over four hundred years that incorporated the 13th-century Romanesque bell tower from its predecessor. Pope Pius IX elevated the church to the status of basilica minor on 5 June 1870. The cathedral stands as a classified historical monument, representing centuries of architectural continuity and development across the medieval and modern periods.
