Winchester Cathedral in Winchester, England, is among the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe and the seat of the bishop of Winchester. Built between 1079 and 1532, the cathedral blends multiple architectural styles: Norman transepts and tower, Early English retroquire, and a notably expansive Perpendicular Gothic nave. At 558 feet long, it is the longest medieval cathedral in the world, and with an area of 53,480 square feet, ranks as the sixth-largest cathedral by area in the UK. Dedicated to multiple saints—most prominently Saint Swithun—and formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity and of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, it serves as the mother church of the Diocese of Winchester and functions as a major tourist attraction.
