Located in District 11 of Tehran near the Italian embassy, the Cathedral of the Consolata is the principal Roman Catholic church of the city and seat of the Archdiocese of Teheran-Isfahan, established in 1629 by Pope Urban VIII. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of Our Lady of Consolation, the cathedral serves the Latin rite and is distinguished from the Chaldean Catholic St. Joseph's Cathedral, which follows the Chaldean tradition. Built in the Pahlavi architectural style, the cathedral reflects the cosmopolitan character of Tehran's Christian community by offering religious services in multiple languages to accommodate the diverse nationalities of worshippers.
