The Centre of New Industries and Technologies (CNIT), located in Puteaux within La Défense west of Paris, was the first building developed in this major business district when it opened in 1958. Designed by Robert Camelot, Nicolas Esquillan, Jean de Mailly, Bernard Zehrfuss, and Jean Prouvé, the structure's distinctive triangular form follows the shape of its plot, which replaced the old Zodiac factories. Originally conceived as a convention centre, the CNIT evolved to accommodate shops, offices including the Fnac media and electronics retailer, the ESSEC Business School's executive education campus, and a Hilton hotel. The building underwent major restructurings in 1988 and 2009, and is now managed by Viparis. Its pioneering role in La Défense's development and modernist design have earned it recognition as a Remarkable Contemporary Architecture.
