Standing at 30 Chestnut Street in Stoneham, Massachusetts, the Charles Wood House is among the town's most elaborate Italianate residences. Built around 1875 for Charles Wood, this 2½-story wood-frame structure exemplifies the ornamental exuberance of late-19th-century domestic architecture. Its L-shaped plan is enriched by a projecting central section crowned with a flat-roof turret, while the roofline breaks into gables facing multiple directions. The facade showcases hallmarks of the period: heavy paired brackets supporting the cornice, porches adorned with Stick style details, and varied wooden clapboards and shingles. Narrow rounded windows with Gothic Revival touches add further visual complexity. The house remained Wood's residence into the early 20th century and was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, later becoming a contributing resource to the Nobility Hill Historic District in 1990.
