Charlottenburg Palace is a monumental Baroque residence in Berlin's Charlottenburg district and among the world's largest palaces. Built beginning in the late 17th century and substantially expanded during the 18th century, primarily under Frederick the Great, it showcases lavish Baroque and Rococo interior decoration. The palace was designed by multiple architects including Johann Arnold Nering, Johann Friedrich Eosander von Göthe, Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, and Carl Gotthard Langhans, whose work spans the Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. The complex encompasses an extensive formal garden bordered by woodland, featuring a belvedere, mausoleum, theatre, and pavilion. Severely damaged during the Second World War, the palace has been meticulously reconstructed and now stands as a major cultural monument and tourist attraction.
