The Château de Branzac is a ruined fifteenth-century castle in Pleaux, Cantal, built as a manor house or hunting lodge with a distinctive rectangular footprint of four stories, two rooms per floor. Its design centers on a staircase tower along the main façade flanked by two round corner towers, creating a picturesque silhouette at the end of a rocky promontory. The castle was decorated entirely with frescoes executed by Italian artists in 1575, later overlaid with more playful scenes in 1610. Substantial damage came when dynamite destroyed one corner tower to harvest stone for railway viaduct construction. Privately owned and listed as a monument historique since 1921, the castle remains a striking reminder of Renaissance domestic architecture in the Auvergne region.
