The Church of San Cataldo stands at Piazza Bellini in central Palermo, erected in 1154 as a striking exemplar of Arab-Norman architecture that flourished under Norman rule in Sicily. The church reflects the distinctive synthesis of Norman, Arab, and Byzantine cultures that characterized the period, blending these influences into a coherent architectural expression. Adjacent to the Church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, San Cataldo has been maintained by the Order of the Holy Sepulchre since the 1930s and now functions as both a working church and museum space. In 2015, it gained recognition as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, securing its place among Sicily's most significant medieval monuments.
