Christ Church stands on Guildford Road in the village of Ottershaw, Surrey, approximately 20 miles southwest of London, in the Runnymede district. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and Grade II listed, the church originated as a private chapel built by Sir Edward Colebrooke in 1863 on his estate as a memorial to his deceased son; it later became the parish church. Scott's design is notable as one of his few polychromatic brick churches, retaining most of its original features. A tower, donated by Edward Gibb, was added in 1885, followed by new parish rooms in the 1990s. The nave and chancel windows, designed by Charles Eamer Kempe and installed in 1901, feature his characteristic tiny wheatsheaf signature and replaced the original plain glass. Kempe also designed the altarpiece, installed the same year and crafted by the Sussex firm Norman and Burt with wooden figures carved in Oberammergau, Bavaria. The churchyard contains the graves of two Commonwealth servicemen from World War II.
