Christ Church in Salem, Tamil Nadu, was consecrated in 1875 and stands on Fort Road near the District Collectorate in the city center. Designed by Robert Fellowes Chisholm, a pioneering architect of Indo-Saracenic style, the church exemplifies the distinctive fusion of European ecclesiastical design with Indian architectural vocabularies that characterized his influential work. Chisholm, who also designed the Senate House of the University of Madras and Madras Presidency College, brought his mastery of the Indo-Saracenic idiom to this commission. The church has served its community for over a century and a half, conducting services in both English and Tamil.
